ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the core fields of Engineering and evergreen in terms of Scope and Job Prospects. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is one of the academic departments of Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology established in the year 2009. The main focus of the department is to impart an imperative understanding on Electrical Systems, Electronics, Control Systems, Signal Processing, VLSI Design and Embedded Systems, Design of Transmission Lines, Construction of Electronic Circuits, Study of Signals and specialize in the realization of VLSI circuits. The Department plays a crucial role in producing world class technocrats. The Department’s objective is to give our students not only the excellence in technological knowledge and applications, but a multidisciplinary Engineering background for their growth in career. The intake of the department is 60 students per year.

Welcome to the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at ACET.

It gives me extreme delight to lead the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. We offer B.E. programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a motto to provide quality education. We take pride in our faculty, a team of highly capable and dedicated professionals, most of whom have academic and industrial experience with different specialization and degrees from leading Universities of India. We provide abundant opportunities to our faculty and students, through In-plant training, workshops and trainings outside the college campus for further growth and development in their areas of expertise.

The excellent framework coupled with dedicated staff and wonderful pupil, we have achieved excellence in all spheres. In addition to class room teaching, the students are guided and motivated to implement the basics learnt in the classrooms through experimentation in the laboratories and by visiting different industries and substations as the course progress, which help them to become skilled engineering professionals.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

  • To provide strong foundation in basic science and mathematics necessary to formulate, solve and analyze electrical and electronics problems.
  • To provide strong foundation in circuit theory, field theory, control theory and signal processing concepts.
  • To provide good knowledge of Electrical power apparatus and their applications in power systems.
  • To provide knowledge on basic electronics to power electronics and their applications in power engineering.

PLC and SCADA Laboratory

The laboratory has a variety of field instruments and transducers, including Hall effect, smart and conventional types to measure temperature, level, voltage, current, frequency, phase angle etc. The laboratory also has a stepper motors, RTDs and thermisters. It also has SIEMENS PLC S7 1200 Training Kit comprises of CPU1214C, 14DI/10 DO/2AI, SB1232-1AO, Power Supp: IP 230V, AC OP 24V DC/ 5A, Step & Basic V 10.5 PLC Program Software, WinCC Flexible 2008 SCADA Engg. Software, WinCC Flexible 2008 SCADA – 128 TAGS RT Software.

Virtual Instrumentation Laboratory

The main objective of this laboratory is implementing and designing various electrical systems on LabVIEW. The specialized equipments available is LabVIEW software and hardware.

Electrical Drives and Control Laboratory

The Electrical Drives laboratory is equipped with setup for speed control of separately excited dc motor by using semi/full converter, IGBT chopper, current and voltage source inverters, slip ring induction motor.

Linear Integrated Circuits and Devices Laboratory

The main aim of this laboratory is to design the electronics circuits and implementing new projects with the help of synchronous and Asynchronous circuits.

Microprocessor and Microcontroller Laboratory

It focus on hardware implementation of Input, Output devices, system design based on microprocessors e.g. temperature control system, stepper motor control systems, interfacing with moving displays.

Electrical Machines Laboratory

Electrical Machines Lab consists of experimental setup for parallel operation of two single phase transformers, speed control of DC shunt motor, magnetization characteristics of DC shunt generator, load test on DC shunt and compound generator, O.C. & S.C. test on alternator, blocked rotor test of induction motor. The Electrical Machines Labs are utilized by all branches for their lab work and project work. In this Laboratory, students perform some basics experiments on Transformers, DC machines, Inductions motors and Synchronous machines.

Power System Simulation Laboratory

This lab provides insight into computer aided techniques of power system and networks. The analysis is done by Pspice.

Power Electronics Laboratory

The main objective of power electronics lab is to make the students familiar with latest technologies that are based on solid state devices like Thyristors, UJT and MOSFET’s with triggering modules. The lab is equipped with experimental setup for thyristor based speed control of dc and induction motors, chopper and application of power electronics in electrical drives and machines and PWM inverter.

Measurements and Instrumentation Laboratory

The main objective of this lab is to make students familiar with verification of various network theorems, Thevenin’s, Norton’s, maximum power transfer, transient response of RL, RC and RLC, determination of z and h parameters for two port network, measurement of phase and frequency using CRO, measurement of inductance and capacitance by Anderson and Schering bridge, measurement of displacement using LVDT, measurement of power and power factor.

Control System Laboratory

Control Systems Laboratory is well equipped with different types of trainer kits to perform various experiments like Speed control and position control  of AC & DC servo motors, operational characteristics of stepper motor, error detector characteristics, simulations of different plots and controllers.

Electrical Circuits Laboratory

The objective of this lab is to give the basic practical knowledge in the field of electrical and electronics Engineering. and to develop the students ability to apply the specific procedures to analyze the fundamentals of Electrical and Electronics Engineering systems.

Electronic Devices and Circuits Laboratory

This lab covers the basic topics like house wiring, earth test, verification of KVL, KCL, open circuit and short circuit test of transformer, study of different gates and semiconductor devices, PN junction diode, Zener diode and BJT.

This Lab provides basic idea of dismantling and assembling of basic electrical equipments, types of switches, designing of power supply.

PLC & SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)

SCADA is a system operating with coded signals over communication channels so as to provide control of remote equipment.
It is a type of industrial control system (ICS) that monitor and control industrial processes that exist in the physical world. These processes include industrial, infrastructure, and facility-based processes.

Industrial processes include those of manufacturing, production, power generation, fabrication, and refining, and may run in continuous, batch, repetitive, or discrete modes.

Facility processes occur both in public facilities and private ones, including buildings, airports, ships, and space stations. They monitor and control heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC), access, and energy consumption.

ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) Processor

ARM is a family of instruction set architectures for computer processors.

ARM processors require significantly fewer transistors than typical CISC x86 processors in most personal computers. This approach reduces costs, heat and power use. Such reductions are desirable traits for light, portable, battery-powered devices including smartphones, laptops, tablet and notepad computers, and other embedded systems.

A simpler design facilitates more efficient multi-core CPUs and higher core counts at lower cost, providing improved energy efficiency for servers.

PIC (Peripheral Interface Controller)

PIC is a family of modified Harvard architecture microcontrollers made by Microchip Technology.

The hardware capabilities of PIC devices range from 8-pin DIP chips up to 100-pin SMD chips, with discrete I/O pins, ADC and DAC modules, and communications ports such as UART, I2C, CAN, and even USB.

PIC devices have low cost, wide availability, large user base, extensive collection of application notes, free development tools, serial programming, and re-programmable Flash-memory capability.

EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

Embedded systems range from portable devices such as digital watches and MP3 players, to large stationary installations like traffic lights, factory controllers, and largely complex systems like hybrid vehicles, MRI, and avionics.

It is CAD software for electrical design and part of the Digital Prototyping solution.

It features all the functionality of familiar AutoCAD software plus a complete set of electrical design CAD features.

LABVIEW (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench)

LabVIEW is commonly used for data acquisition, instrument control, and industrial automation on a variety of platforms including Microsoft Windows, various versions of UNIX, Linux, and Mac OS X.

CCNA certification is an associate-level Cisco Career certification.

CCNA focus on security, collaboration, datacentres, service providers, video, voice, and wireless.

This exam tests a candidate’s knowledge and skills required to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium size enterprise branch network.

DIALux

A software by planners for planners.

Used by many hundred thousands of light planners and designers worldwide.

DIALux determines the energy, your light solution requires and supports you in complying with the respective national and international regulations.

OrCAD

OrCAD is a proprietary software tool suite used primarily for Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

The software is used mainly by electronic design engineers and electronic technicians to create electronic schematics and electronic prints for manufacturing printed circuit boards.

The name OrCAD is a portmanteau, reflecting the company and its software’s origins: Oregon + CAD

PCB (Printed Circuit Board)

A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) mechanically supports and electrically connects electronic components using conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate.

Multi-layer PCBs allow for much higher component density

Advanced PCBs may contain components  capacitors, resistors or active devices  embedded in the substrate.

Printed circuit boards are used in all but the simplest electronic products.

A PCB populated with electronic components is called a printed circuit assembly (PCA).

The future prospects of Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduates are very wide and bright. EEE graduates can work in various fields as Power Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering and Media. There are number of good opportunities for jobs in India as well as abroad.

Experiential learning helps in career development by providing a realistic day-to-day view of various professions, industries, labs and organizations. Experiential learning at Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology includes different types of activities, with one common goal- to immerse students in “hands-on” experience outside the classroom. NEWSPAPER READING

Newspapers are responsible for creating and generating reading habits among students. The majority of time spent reading newspapers is fifteen minutes daily after lunch hours from 12.45 PM to 1.00 PM. The students read newspapers in Tamil or English language. Students prefer to read editorial sections, followed by sports and politics.

SEMINAR HOUR

College Seminar hour was designed to integrate academics and fun through the use of interactive learning that involves group activities and a variety of other techniques.This 15 minutes seminar hour communication from 9.15 am to 9.30 am focuses on analyzing barriers that inhibit listening skills, clarity in speech, directly, and strategize solutions to communication challenges.

INAUGRATION OF AKSHAYA SOLAR POWER PLANT

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering successfully inaugurated Solar Power Plant on 10.12.2015 in college campus at 11.00 am. Mr.S.Sivakumar, Chief Manager, Solarcare India Private Limited was the guest and stated the importance and growth of Renewable energy in industry and policy trends. There are about 408 Solar panels installed and production at maximum will be about 94 KW.
