ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Electronics and Communication Engineering is a rapidly growing field with new ideas emerging into it in every other second. The department was established in the year 2009 in order to render services to meet the growing global challenges of Engineering Industries and Organizations. The department offers Under Graduate Programme and Post Graduate Programme (M.E. VLSI Design) with an intake of 120 and 18 students respectively. The department imparts high quality technical knowledge in the areas of Semiconductor Devices, Design of Electronic Circuits, Signal Processing, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Communication Engineering, Computer Hardware Interface, VLSI, Embedded Systems and Biomedical Instrumentation.

Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology is one of the best engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University. All the faculty members are dedicated and skillful. Each and every student is well taken care of. The students admitted at ACET, are guided to achieve their goals along with good counseling. Every year the college has University Rank Holders – which is one more feather in the cap of the institution.

Besides providing an excellent learning environment, students are also encouraged towards innovation for both the development and application of the engineering skills. The big infrastructure of the college with adequate facilities is added strength to the college. It provides excellent hostel facilities for both boys and girls in separate campuses.

One has to be proud for studying at ACET. It is an icon in the field of engineering education, which stands with eminence to serve the people of this country.

ANALOG AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATION LAB

The Analog and Digital Communication laboratory focuses on training the students in both analog and digital transmission/reception of signal. The students here start in the analog area by constructing the circuits of amplitude modulation, frequency modulation and phase modulation.

DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING LAB

Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is a fast growing area which has applications in various Engineering streams. The DSP lab facilitates to provide knowledge in the concepts of Real-time and non-real-time applications using the DSP kits & MATLAB software. The experiments in the DSP lab concentrate in the realization of various digital filters, simulation of DSP systems etc. The DSP kits are used in applications like Imaging, Multimedia and Video Communication, Telephony, Modems, Digital Still Camera and VoIP.

ELECTRONICS LAB

The Electronics laboratory is to impart the basic knowledge of different electronic components, its characteristics and devices, to gain practical knowledge in the area of power electronic components and their applications. Common components are resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, and integrated circuits. Students practically learn circuit designing that contributes significantly to provide them with engineering skills. These labs are well facilitated to realize all basic electronic design circuits such as amplifiers, feed-back amplifiers, power amplifiers and oscillators etc.,

MICROPROCESSOR LAB

Microprocessor lab helps the students to enhance their knowledge about various processors such as 8085, 8086, microcontollers, Pentium processors and also the interfacing of these processors with other equipments. Students develop their skills in the field of microprocessor and its applications. The features and facilities available in this lab will help the students do their projects and enhance their knowledge about the latest trends and technologies.

INTEGRATED CIRCUITS LAB

The Integrated Circuits lab aims to gain the practical hands-on experience by exposing the students to various linear IC applications. The lab introduces to the students IC 741 and its applications, 555 timer and various voltage regulators. The testers for IC are available. This laboratory is fully equipped with major equipment’s like Linear and Digital Trainer kits, Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, Function Generator and Simulator. COMPUTER NETWORKS LAB

Networks laboratory focuses on training the students broadly in the areas of modeling, design, control and optimization of wireless networks. The lab includes experiments which create a scenario to study the performance of networks with various Ethernet and LAN protocols.Learning the concepts using simulation software tools with small applications give them plenty of joy and real motivation towards their studies. The students become familiar in the modeling, analysis, optimisation and control problems in communication networks and thereby this lab provides theoretical, analytical and algorithmic basis for network performance analysis & network engineering.

OPTICAL AND MICROWAVE LAB

In Microwave Lab the students are exposed to the microwave active devices like klystron, gunn diode and passive devices like isolator, circulator, slide screw tuner, magic tee, directional coupler, horn antenna, attenuator, terminations which strengthen the concepts of generation, transmission and reception of microwave signals as well as functions of various components used in microwave systems. The students perform all the experiments as prescribed by the university.

ELECTRONIC SYSTEM DESIGN LAB

Electronic System Design lab is spacial and well equipped with the latest signal generators, oscilloscopes, digital trainer kits and measuring instruments. Students are trained to design and test their analog/digital/mixed signals, digital circuits as part of their curriculum. Guidance is provided to the students by a team of expert faculty and lab technicians.

VLSI DESIGN LAB

The Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) applications are becoming more significant in everyday use. The field of VLSI was developed due to the flexibility offered by the use of digital computers in implementing signal processing algorithms and systems. There is a constant need for designing systems with low power, high speed and low area. The VLSI lab is equipped with hordes of personal computers. The students enrich their knowledge by using the software tools like Modelsim, Xilinx and Cadence and expertise in the Hardware Description Languages such as VHDL and Verilog.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LAB

Research plays an important role in the educational experience and provides practical skills for future employment of engineering students. The Research and Development lab is set up with the objective to motivate and encourage students to take up research projects based on innovative ideas. This provides a platform for ECE students to participate in groundbreaking research with faculty.

VALUE ADDED PROGRAMS

The Value-Added Programme is a series of modules and workshops, specially designed with the input of faculty, industry and University partners to build on existing degree curriculum, with the aim of further enriching and broadening students – learning experience, so as to prepare them better for the working world. The Value-Added Programme (VAP) offers opportunities for students to maximize their learning during their stay at college. Listed VAP are taught by industry professionals and faculty who are leaders in the field.

Integrating all the tools that engineers and scientists need to build a wide range of applications in dramatically less time. LabVIEW is a development environment for problem solving, accelerated productivity and continual innovation.

ROBOTICS

Robotics is a rapidly growing field, as technological advances continue; researching, designing, and building new robots serve various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially or militarily.

Our aim is to provide face to face & Hands-on-Sessions to the candidates which will help them to understand the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of the Robotics World.

The students will definitely learn the basic concepts and can plan to make their career in the Field of Robotics.

EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

An Embedded System is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system, often with real-time computing constraints. It is embedded as part of a complete device often including hardware and mechanical parts. Embedded systems control many devices in common use today.

This course deals with overview of digital electronics, Microcontroller, 8051 Architecture, Port Organization, 8051 Interrupts, Instruction Set, Addressing Modes Overview of C Language, Embedded C, Difference between Embedded C and C, Embedded C Library Programming Tools and Techniques, Microcontroller on Board, Programming 8051, Writing program using the Keil IDE.

Mobile Phone is an electronic device used for communication and messaging. Nowadays, this has become very popular and essential need of the society. These are available in various make and brands in the market. Therefore repairing and servicing of mobile phones are also required to be done. This has got a prospective market. Repairing and Servicing of mobile phones have a good market prospect all over the country. This business can be started in a very less investment.

This course deals with

  • Assembling & disassembling of different types of mobile phones.
  • Use of various tools & instruments used in mobile phone repairing.
  • Introduction and study of Printed Circuit Board (Motherboard)

VLSI (XILINX &CADENCE SOFTWARE)

Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) is the process of creating an Integrated Circuit (IC) by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI began in the 1970s when complex semiconductor and communication technologies were being developed. The microprocessor is a VLSI device. Before the introduction of VLSI technology most ICs had a limited set of functions they could perform. An electronic circuit might consist of a CPU, ROM, RAM and other glue logic. VLSI lets IC designers add all of these into one chip.

The course is designed to give the student an understanding of the different design steps required to carry out a complete digital VLSI design in silicon.

PCB DESIGN (OrCAD PSpice)

For any electronics product, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) forms the basic foundation for interconnecting and packaging. PCBs are used to mechanically support and electrically connect electronic components using conductive pathways, tracks or signal traces etched from copper sheets laminated on a non-conductive substrate.

The major steps in the PCB design and fabrication process are as follows:

  • Design and test the prototype circuit by hand
  • Capture the circuit’s schematic
  • Perform the physical layout of the circuit
  • Fabricate, populate and test the PCB

NETWORK SIMULATOR (NS2)

A Network Simulator is a software that predicts the behavior of a computer network. In simulators, the computer network is typically modeled with devices, links, applications etc. and the performance is analyzed. Typically, users can then customize the simulator to fulfill their specific analysis needs. Simulators typically come with support for the most popular protocols and networks in use today, such as WLAN, Wi-Max, TCP, WSN, cognitive radio,etc.

RASPBERRY PI

The Raspberry Pi is a series of ARM powered, credit card sized single-board computers (developer boards) made in UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, an organization for educational and hobbyist purposes. These low power computers are mass produced at very low prices and the high number of units sold gives it massive community support. All Raspberry Pi supports full 1080p (Full HD) video playback of the most commonly used codec and reasonably responsive GUI performance.
